As we stand at the threshold of a new year, I extend heartfelt greetings of peace, hope, and renewed strength to all peoples of the Commonwealth—across nations, cultures, and faiths.
The passing year has reminded us that our world is deeply interconnected. We have witnessed moments of challenge that tested our compassion, our patience, and our sense of responsibility toward one another. Yet we have also seen courage, generosity, and quiet faithfulness expressed in families, communities, and public life. These signs of hope must not be overlooked, for they reveal the enduring light that no darkness can overcome.
The Old Catholic tradition calls us to a faith that is rooted in conscience, shaped by reason, and lived through love. As we begin this new year, I encourage all people — believers and non-believers alike—to recommit themselves to the dignity of every human person, to justice tempered by mercy, and to dialogue rather than division. Our differences need not be sources of fear; when approached with humility, they can become pathways to mutual enrichment.
To leaders and institutions throughout the Commonwealth, I offer this prayerful appeal: govern with integrity, listen to the voices of the vulnerable, and act with foresight for the sake of future generations. True leadership is measured not by power, but by service.
To families, young people, and elders, may this new year bring health, learning, reconciliation, and the reassurance that your lives matter profoundly. No act of kindness is too small; no effort toward peace is ever wasted.
May the coming year be one in which we choose solidarity over isolation, truth over falsehood, and hope over despair. And may God — known by many names and sought in many ways — bless the Commonwealth with wisdom, peace, and a renewed commitment to the common good.
With every good wish for the New Year,
Yours sincerely,
The Most Reverend Dr Jonathan T Bennett-Hughes
Metropolitan Archbishop
United Temple of the Spirit
for the Province of the United Kingdom and Associated Territories
